Terms of service
ZebraBackup is provided by Bradford IT Guy, Bradford, Ontario. By signing up, your business agrees to these terms.
- Service: backup software for your computers, encrypted storage in Canada, a portal to restore files, monitoring and support.
- Fees: billed monthly per computer at the price above plus tax, by invoice or saved card (Square). Prices change only with 30 days' email notice. Backups may be paused if an invoice is unpaid 30 days after its due date; your backups are kept.
- Your account: you are responsible for your logins, passwords and install links. Tell us at once if you think someone used them.
- Your data: your files stay yours. We access backups only to provide the service, at your request, or when the law requires it.
- Cancelling: any time, by email. The service ends at the end of the month; your backups are deleted within 30 days after that.
- Limits: no service can be guaranteed error-free. Our liability is limited to the fees paid in the 3 months before a claim; we are not liable for indirect losses.
- Law: Ontario and the federal laws of Canada.
Privacy policy
We follow Canada's privacy law (PIPEDA).
- What we keep: your business and contact details, your computers' names and backup status, invoices, and messages you send us. Card details stay with Square.
- Your files: encrypted on your computer before upload and stored in Toronto (Backblaze). Backblaze cannot read them. We keep each computer's key, encrypted, only to restore files when you ask.
- Shared only with the providers that run the service: Backblaze (storage), Square (payments), email delivery and web hosting. We never sell information or use it for advertising.
- Kept while you are a customer; backups deleted within 30 days after you leave; billing records as long as tax law requires.
- Your rights: ask to see or correct your information at support@zebrabackup.com.
- This website uses one cookie, to keep the form secure. No tracking.
Security
Your files are encrypted on your computer before they leave it, stored in Canada, and locked so that ransomware, a stolen password or a mistake cannot delete them.
- Encrypted before upload
- Every file is encrypted on your computer with AES-256 and checked with a Poly1305 code, so any change is detected. Each computer has its own random key. Backblaze, where the backups are stored, never has the keys and cannot read your files.
- Encrypted in transit
- The computer, the portal and the storage only talk over encrypted HTTPS (TLS) connections.
- Stored in Canada
- Backups are kept in Backblaze's Canadian data centre in Toronto. Backblaze is independently audited for SOC 2 Type 2 and runs mainly in ISO 27001 certified data centres.
- Locked against deletion
- Backups are locked with Object Lock in compliance mode for 30 days, and the lock keeps being extended while a backup is in use. During that time nobody can delete or change them: not ransomware, not someone with a stolen password, not even us.
- One key per computer
- Each computer gets its own storage key that can only reach its own backups. A problem on one computer cannot touch the others.
- Only computers we add
- A new computer can join your account only with a one-time serial number we create for it. It works once and expires after an hour.
- Signed updates
- Updates to the ZebraBackup app are digitally signed (Ed25519). A computer installs an update only if the signature is ours.
- Safe sign-in
- Two-factor sign-in for every portal login, an email when someone signs in from a new device, and accounts that lock after repeated wrong passwords.
- Checked, not assumed
- Backups are verified every week by reading part of the stored data back, and we are alerted at once if a backup is missed or fails.
- Private restores
- Files you restore through the portal are downloaded as encrypted ZIP files, which are deleted after 24 hours.
Industry standards
ZebraBackup is built to meet the backup requirements of these recognized standards.
| Standard | What it asks for | How ZebraBackup does it |
|---|---|---|
| Canadian Centre for Cyber Security, Baseline Controls for Small and Medium Organizations: control 7 | Back up essential data, keep backups encrypted, limit who can reach them, keep long-term copies offline, and test restores. | Encrypted backups; each computer's key reaches only its own backups; weekly checks. Instead of offline copies, backups are locked so nothing on your network can change or delete them. |
| NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0: PR.DS-11 | Backups of data are created, protected, maintained and tested. | Automatic scheduled backups, encrypted and locked, kept by daily, weekly and monthly rules, verified every week. |
| CIS Critical Security Controls v8: control 11, Data Recovery | Automated backups, protected recovery data, an isolated copy, and tested recovery. | Automatic backups, encryption, a locked copy that is separate from your network, and regular checks. |
| The 3-2-1 backup rule | 3 copies of your data, on 2 kinds of storage, 1 of them off-site. | ZebraBackup is the off-site copy, and it is locked so it cannot be deleted. |
| PIPEDA (Canada's privacy law) | Protect personal information, use it only for its purpose, and be open about it. | Data stays in Canada, is shared only with the providers that run the service, and is never sold. See the privacy policy below. |
